Entry #8. Personal Growth
Personal Growth
"Self-growth, sometimes referred to as 'personal growth' or 'personal development,' is a process of developing new skills, attitudes, actions, or reactions that can have a positive impact on your life and increase your overall well-being". -By Zamfira Parincu, BA, Researcher
Why is it important?
According to John C. Maxwell, the seed of hope is a growth mindset. This is the start of a better future. It is believing that things will be the way you want them to be. As soon as the belief that growth is possible and committing to doing so, the hope process will begin. Having hope can impact your view on how you grow. The more hope you are willing to put into your efforts, the more change you will see. Nonetheless, growing personally can make you thrive in life, live happily, and build healthy relationships with everyone and everything, including yourself!
The 4 Types of Growth
Personal Growth can be covered in four categories: emotional, social, intellectual, and career growth.
- Emotional growth is the ongoing process of emotions that someone faces during life experiences. This kind of growth focuses on trying to better handle the emotions one is feeling and how to do so. Sure, it can be difficult. But, with many exercises, like journaling and speaking about it, it can improve.
- Social Growth focuses on increasing social experiences in a positive way, expanding your social circles, increasing self confidence and self-esteem with the help of your community and social peers.
- Intellectual Growth aims to improve a person's ability to think and reason with the world. It is all about the mind and how it chooses to make decisions based on its surroundings. In most cases, intellectual growth occurs in children when they are utilizing their imagination.
- Career Growth is the process of moving up in the career ladder, from a lower position to the highest, until a person reaches what they desire in this occupation.
In Conclusion...
This process of Personal Growth is not a race to see who can get there faster. Several flaws can be found in the process and multiple errors can be encountered, and it's totally human! Be kind to yourself while you continue this journey on improving your life.
