Entry #6. Balancing School and Life
Balancing School and Life
Balancing your school life and your personal life can be pretty challenging. This can especially be because you feel you need to prioritize one thing you may think is more important than another. It feels like there aren't enough hours in a day to balance school and your personal life all at once. There are many strategies to maintain a special equilibrium between the two. Today, I will mention a very important strategy.
Time Management
According to Coursera, time management is "the process of consciously planning and controlling time spent on specific tasks to increase how efficient you are". Some strategies to back up this strategy is setting deadlines, writing to-do lists, utilizing a planner, and giving yourself small rewards for accomplishing certain activities. Some tips when completing time management include setting setting your goals correctly, prioritizing wisely, setting time limits, taking breaks between tasks, organizing yourself, removing nonessential tasks, and planning ahead of time.
It is very important to prioritize specific deadlines so there is a set discipline when they are not met. For example, if in school you do have a deadline for an assignment, you must complete it by the date or else your grade will drop. As for your personal life, if you have a water bill you must pay by a certain day, you must pay it in order to have running water. To-do lists maintain everything in an organized way, so tasks are not skipped or forgotten. This is also the same for a planner. Giving yourself a small reward after completing a job keeps this is mind every time you have something to do, so it is a repetitive action which will most likely motivate you to finish your tasks.
You should set your goals correctly so that if you change your mind later on in the future, it won't hold you back or put you behind on your long term goals. Setting time limits also plays a role in keeping your tasks organized so you will not stay behind. Taking breaks between tasks will, in general, ease both your school and personal life so it is not as stressful as it may seem. Removing nonessential tasks from your path to success also keeps you organized and focused on what is more important. Lastly, planning ahead of time is all in the organization of your life as well.
